Both Eric and Shiloh are interior designers by trade, and Eric also has a background in wedding and event planning and floral design. Shiloh also sells some of his own three-dimensional artwork in the shop, pieces that feature colorful and finely detailed wood cutouts depicting scenes of native birds, butterflies and sailboats.
Opening a home decor shop, said Eric, is something he and Shiloh have always wanted to do.
"It was a great thing for the two of us to be able to do this. It's really been a dream for both of us," Eric said.
The couple moved to Portland from Georgia last spring. After deciding to go ahead with starting their own business in the Midcoast,
they moved to Belfast earlier this fall and began remodeling their shop space in preparation for the opening.
"We love it here already," said Eric. "We have made so many wonderful friends here." "Southern hospitality hasn't got anything on Maine," added Shiloh with a smile. Both Nunns grew up in small towns, and both say they wanted to have a business that would cater to the locals as well as attract thetourists who visit the area in the summertime. Part of accomplishing that, said Eric, was keeping prices reasonable. "We wanted people from Maine, and people from Belfast, to come into the store and be able to afford it," said Eric. Opening just after the tourist rush but before the holiday season, Eric said, was an intentional move, too — they want to get to know their local customers first.
"We want to show Belfast who we are and what we are," said Eric. "We want the community to be able to see all of this first, because
when it's tourist season, the locals will tell them about us."
